Grayling Terrace, south Draper Road under mandatory evacuation order

Mandatory Evacuations

The city’s Emergency Management team is ordering mandatory evacuations for Grayling Terrace and the south end of Draper Road.

It’s because of erosion, or sloughing, that’s happening on Beacon Hill’s southwest side, which is causing debris to fall into the Hangingstone River.

Because of the large amount of rainfall expected tonight and tomorrow, the amount of sloughing is supposed to significantly increase, which could cause the river to flood into Grayling Terrace.

About 340 residents will be affected by the mandatory evacuation, and more sandbags are being sent to Grayling to add to the ones already there.

And with more flooding and the potential of heavy rain, the section of Draper Road south of the Draper bridge is also being forced to evacuate.

The projected rain fall could possibly make that section of the road impassible, a section that’s already down to only a single lane.
