Heavy rainfall could come by Friday morning

The city is still in a state of local emergency and water levels are still stable, but there’s more rain expected in the next day.

Right now, Environment Canada has a weather warning in effect for the area, saying it expects there to be another 50 mm of rain by Friday morning.

But earlier today, Chief Meteorologist from the Weather Network Chris Scott tweeted out that new estimates show the region getting less than 30 mm.

All mandatory and voluntary evacuations in Waterways and Draper are still in effect, as well as the boil water advisory in Waterways.

So far, the Frank Lacroix arena has registered 187 people who have been affected by the flooding.

Right now, many restoration projects are happening around town.

The Heritage Park berm project is going on over the course of the day.

Work on the Tolen Drive retaining wall is continuing, and engineers are monitoring the structural integrity on the Draper Road bridge.

And ATCO employees are going door-to-door in Waterways lighting pilot lights after the broken gas line was fixed.

For people looking to volunteer, there’s a sandbagging station set up at the Howard J Pew park in Waterways, and food bank volunteers are at the Sobeys in Thickwood, and are looking for more volunteers this afternoon.
