A U.S critic of the Keystone X.L oil sands pipeline is coming to Fort McMurray, to see the sands first hand.
Environmental lawyer Robert F. Kennedy Junior says he doesn’t expect his opinion to change but he’ll try to understand its economic benefits.
He says the invitation came from environmentalists and First Nations who have raised concerns about the health and environmental effects ‘believed to be caused by industry development.
Kennedy is coming for the Canada Day long weekend and will also be looking to speak with producers.
The Obama administration is considering approving the $7-billion TransCanada Keystone X.L pipeline that would ship 800,000 barrels of Alberta oil sands bitumen from Bruderheim to refineries on the U.S. Gulf Coast.
A decision is expected before Fall.
