Albertans turning to U.S. group for answers on pipeline safety

Four Albertan environmental and landowner organizations have  turned to one of the States largest “green” groups to give them answers about the province’s aging pipeline network.

Alberta Surface Rights Group’s Don Beaster says because the province won’t release its pipeline safety report it’s being forced to find answers somewhere else.

He says they want to know how things should run so they’ve turned to the Washington-based Natural Resources Defense Council.

It’s a huge critic of the $7-billion TransCanada Keystone X.L pipeline that would ship 800,000 barrels of Alberta oil sands bitumen from Bruderheim to refineries on the U.S. Gulf Coast.

A decision from the Obama administration is expected this year.
