Flood-damaged RMWB residents can apply for funding Tuesday

Help is coming for those who suffered property damages due to the flooding in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo.

Starting Tuesday, people who sustained damages caused by the flood from June 10th-17th can go to the municipal office to get a Wood Buffalo Disaster Recovery Program application.

Fort McMurray Conklin MLA Don Scott says the first priority is to help families and small businesses that had uninsurable losses.

He says the majority of the funding will cover repairs to public infrastructure and the costs that came with the emergency response and cleanup.

Fort McMurray-Wood Buffalo MLA Mike Allen says the province is committed to restoring the losses.

A dollar value for local damages still is unknown because assessments are still being done.

Residents should first call their insurance company to get a letter that outlines their uninsurable damage.

They should also take photographs of the damage to give to an assessment evaluator.

Once a resident submits the application and is deemed eligible, an on-site damage assessment will be done.

Financial assistance will be given to homeowners for repairs to rebuild their primary residence and other uninsurable property damage and loss.

IThe program also helps communities, small businesses and agriculture producers.

It’s meant to cover the price tag of getting essential property back to the condition it was before the disaster.
