Province's stalled highway projects lead to real estate headache

The Province’s freeze on projects on highways 63 and 69 has stopped two new housing developments in their tracks.

The Parsons Creek and Saline Creek areas can no longer build residential units, because there isn’t sufficient road access to them.

Kim Jenkins, who works for the Keyano College Land Trust Corporation, says all they need is an agreement from the government.

“And the good news is, for us to go ahead and get permits, is as long as we have the commitment that they’re going to do it and that it’s going to be built within the next two years, we can go ahead.”

He says he also sent a letter to the province about the issue.

“My letter that I sent out asked for the government to convene a meeting with the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, and sit down and work out a way that we can get (highway) 69 on the books.”

The Corporation is planning on building a subdivison for the college in Saline Creek.
