Heritage Park gift shop opens Monday; still lots to clean-up after flood

On Monday Heritage Park will open up it’s gift shop – the only thing it can open after the flood tore it up about 3 weeks ago.

Executive Director Roseann Davidson says there’s still a lot to do to clean-up.

“We’re still assessing. We probably have a few more truck loads of  artifacts to take out.  We thought we may be able to switch them about from building to building, but that’s not going to happen, so we’re just going to take them to storage.”

She says 3 buildings in particular took a real beating, including the church.

“We are unfortunately pulling off baseboards and taking floors off in the historical buildings gently, because we want to try and restore to the original as much as possible.”

Davidson says it’s reaching out for help.

“We’re actually working with our museum networking folks to have a couple of conservationists come in and have a look and see what what they can suggest,” she adds, “my volunteer structural engineer is back today, and I’m excited about it because he’s the expert.”

She says it doesn’t need volunteers right now, but to stay tuned for upcoming opportunities.

But, she wants people to come to the gift shop when it opens because it’s a great way to help out financially.
