CMHC: New housing projects in RMWB up 195% in June

Fort McMurray saw a 195% increase in housing starts last month compared to the year before.

The Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation says June saw 112 houses started compared to the 38 the year before.

Single units were down 35% to 17 started but, there was 95 multiple units started which equals a 693% increase.

So far this year, the region has seen 407 houses started compared to last years 223 – that’s a jump of nearly 83%.

Last month, the province alone saw a 14% jump and in 12 months 10%.

But, the agency says the annual rate of starts country-wide fell 2.7%.
