Canadian Riley Wheeldon wins Syncrude Boreal Open

For the second year in a row, a Canadian has captured the Boreal Open title.

Comox, B.C.’s Riley Wheeldon shot a 6-under 66 today and finished atop the leaderboard with a -13 for the tournament.

He beat Brazilian Lucas Lee by one stroke, and last year’s winner, Cory Renfrew, by two shots.

Wheeldon said it wasn’t a perfect week, but he was really encouraged by his progress.

“It was a good mental week for me, and knowing that I can win making those mistakes is a huge confidence boost, and I’m looking forward to eventually playing better golf,” he said.

Fort McMurray native Stuart Anderson finished in a tie for 19th, with a score of -5.

He said playing in front of the hometown crowd this weekend was great, but wished he could have had a better result.

“I’m feeling good about my game. My scores didn’t show it this weekend, but I’m looking forward to playing better.

The next tournament on the PGA Tour Canada schedule is The Players Cup next weekend at Pine Ridge Golf Club in Winnipeg.
