Billionaire challenges TransCanada CEO to live debate on Keystone X.L.

A San Fransisco billionaire is challenging TransCanada’s CEO and President to a live debate on the controversial Keystone X.L. oilsands pipeline.

Critic of the $5.3-billion project, Tom Steyer wrote an open letter to Russ Girling yesterday, although there’s no word yet if the challenge has been accepted.

Steyer says the public should listen to both sides and decide for themselves who has the better argument.

He’s recently teamed with a coalition of environmental groups on an anti-pipeline social media campaign.

The final decision on the Alberta to Gulf Coast line will be made by the Obama administration later this year.
