Food Bank saw a 10% usage increase in June compared to last year

Due to government cuts in funding, the Wood Buffalo Food Bank Association is unable to run their successful Basic Shelf Program this year. The program graduates more than 50 students per year, taking them from low-income situations and molding them into active contributors in Wood Buffalo. Photo supplied by the Food Bank.

The Food Bank is seeing rising numbers in people it’s helping, and because of that is urgently looking for donations.

For the month of June it’s reporting a 10 percent increase in the food hampers it sent out compared to last year.

It made 246 this June, but, it’s down 19 percent from June in 2011.

So far this year, it’s sent home 1829 hampers.

Because of the increased usage, the food bank is in urgent need of donations, especially canned foods.

You can donate at the food bank itself or at any local grocery store.
