Province updates Official Stats site; adds more Wood Buffalo info
Out of the entire province, the Wood Buffalo-Cold Lake region has the highest number of couples living in a common-law relationship.
That’s one of the stats the province released online through its newly updated 2013 Alberta Official Stats site.
There’s more info about various aspects of life in the province, including population, labour force and water quality.

Stuff like, last year, Alberta’s total bitumen sent for upgrading to synthetic crude oil averaged over 1-million barrels per day.
That marks a 5.5% increase from 2011.

The province says the info is used to inform government policy and decision making, as well as by educators, researchers, and others who may want to know more about the province.

A FEW MORE FACTS:
- Alberta’s total crude bitumen production – both mined and in-situ – saw a more than 10% increase from 2011 to 2012. The province’s total production last year reached 1,922,000 barrels per day.
- Province-wide, the Wood Buffalo-Cold Lake region had the lowest ratio of dependency in 2011. The province says for every 100 people working 37 were dependents, and 9 were old age dependent. This means the population has a larger proportion of children and a smaller group of seniors.
- Albertans like staycations. In 2011, residents made 19.05 million trips within the province, a 2.2% jump compared to 2010 and accounting for 81.1% of the province’s tourists.
- Alberta is the only province in Canada with more men than women. In 2012, there were about 104 men for every 100 women.
- Between May 2012 and May 2013, the province’s average weekly earnings hiked by 4.9%. This growth rate was higher than the national average.
- People from Ontario, British Columbia and Saskatchewan made up the largest interprovincial migrants to Alberta between 2006 and 2011.
