Truck lost bio-solids on 63 this morning; being cleaned now

This morning a city truck lost bio-solids on Highway 63, and the city is cleaning it up now.

Director of Environmental Services Kevin Scoble says bio-solids are de-watered solids from the waste water system.

“So the sewage treatments been completed on it, and we haul that material to the land fill from the waste water plant. Then we get it to the landfill and we manage it there through a composting process as needed.”

He says it’s in 2 locations – just south of the Athabasca Bridge, and by the Hospital Street Overpass.

“We’ve notified Alberta Transportation, we’ve also asked the RCMP for assistance with traffic,” says Scoble.

He says they don’t know exactly when it happened this morning.

A call into Rock 97.9 this morning from a man named Rob had this story to tell.

“I was just driving on my way down to work this morning, and traffic was a little backed up and I didn’t realize why.  It turns out that there was a semi-truck full of manure,” he laughs and continues, “it lost a good chunk of it’s load, mostly on my car.”

He laughs again and says, “you know, words can’t describe the pungent smell of manure, first thing in the morning.”

Scoble says they’ll be investigating the situation a little more, but right now, it’s just working on getting it cleaned up and off the road.
