6 people are in hospital after a semi tractor trailer crashed with two cars on Highway 63 north of Atmore around 7:30 last night.

According to witnesses, the southbound semi lost control while braking, crossed into oncoming traffic and hit two northbound cars.

Boyle RCMP say it closed the road in both directions for 9 hours.

STARS flew three of the injured to Edmonton hospitals, the rest went to local hospitals.

The person in the first car suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries.

The other car burst into flames, and the four, who are related, were removed from it by nearby construction workers.

Among the injured is a 21 year-old woman and 19 and 48 year-old men.

RCMP say alcohol isn’t believed to have played a part in the crash.

The investigation into the matter continues.
