Confed overpass re-opening delayed

Alberta Transportation has missed its original timeline for re-opening the Confederation Way overpass to traffic.

When the interchange was first closed back in mid-July, the government said it would be accessible again by the end of August for access to westbound Confederation Way.

However, on Sunday, instead of there being a re-opening, digital construction signs were simply re-done to indicate that the work wouldn’t finish until September 10th.

The ongoing closure has resulted in long backups on northbound 63 during the afternoon rush, owing to drivers needing to use the traffic lights in order to turn left.

The interchange is still supposed to be completely finished by October 31st, meaning that all traffic would use the ramps on that interchange instead of eastbound Confed traffic using the existing lights to turn onto southbound 63.

But there’s no word yet on why the re-opening of the ramp from northbound 63 has been delayed by 10 days.
