Food Bank numbers keep climbing, and it's urgently looking for help

Due to government cuts in funding, the Wood Buffalo Food Bank Association is unable to run their successful Basic Shelf Program this year. The program graduates more than 50 students per year, taking them from low-income situations and molding them into active contributors in Wood Buffalo. Photo supplied by the Food Bank.

The Food Bank’s shelves are bare, it keeps getting more clients and it’s urgently asking the community for help.

It says compared to last year, August had a 23% increase in people using its services.

It also saw a 14% increase in usage from July to August.

It says last month, it brought in about 8967 pounds of food but had to throw out 407 pound of it because it was expired or damaged.
