Eastern premiers and New England state governors push for safer transportation of oil

Eastern Canadian premiers and New England state governors say moving oil by rail and through pipelines safely is important and the topic was a key issue at a meeting in Quebec.

The politicians passed a resolution pushing their respective federal governments to take all precautions necessary to guarantee the safety of hazardous materials by rail.

Quebec’s Pauline Marois says it’s especially important in light of her province’s deadly train disaster in July.

Maine’s governor says he supports TransCanada’s proposed west-east pipeline, saying his state would welcome Albertan oil.
