Cold Lake First Nations concerned about latest CNRL spill

Two more leaks at a CNRL oilsands project on the Saskatchewan border have brought the total link count to six.

The Cold Lake First Nations’ Chief says she’s worried about how leaks like this affect aquifers under the land which pose a threat to drinking water, animals and vegetation.

In July, the company said a mechanical failutre at an old well was behind the ongoing leaks on the Cold Lake Weapons Range.

It said the four previous leaks had been contained and clean up efforts were underway.

At that time, almost 1,000,000 litres of bitumen had leaked into the bush and muskeg, and another 2400 litres were seeping in every day.
