About a week after Neil Young had some harsh words for the Fort McMurray area, Actor Robert Redford released a video  where he condemns pipelines and what he calls “dirty energy.”

“The pipelines that carry this toxic tarsands fuel are direct threat to our own drinking water supplies,” he adds, “so if you ask me, tar sands oil is exactly the kind of dirty energy we can no longer afford.”

Redford released it yesterday as part of a new climate change campaign by the National Resources Defense Council.

He admitted there’s a lot of money to be made by strip mining and drilling but went on to call it the dirtiest oil in the planet.”Why should the rest of us pay the price?  Developing the Canadian tar sands is destroying our great northern forest at a terrifying rate.”

The video is part of the council’s new DemandCleanPower website.

In Washington D.C. last week, Neil Young compared Fort McMurray to Hiroshima and called the region a wasteland.
