Boat crash kills 45 year-old and puts 59 year-old in hospital

A 45 year-old man is dead and a 59 year-old is in hospital after a boat crashed into a sandbar in the Athabasca River Saturday.

Police say it happened in a remote location about 140 kilometres north of Fort McMurray.

The 45 year-old was thrown off board and search crews are still working on recovering his body, while the other man suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Police continue to investigate, but have ruled out alcohol and foul play.

Out of respect for the families who have been notified, further victim information will not be released.
