MLA Mike Allen's court date postponed to 15th

Fort McMurray-Wood Buffalo MLA Mike Allen was supposed to be in a Minnesota Court room today, but a scheduling conflict with his lawyer has pushed it back to the 15th.

Allen says his lawyer will then make a motion hearing.

“The motion will be to request that I don’t have to appear for the first preliminary hearing.”

Allen was charged in July for solicitation of prostitution- a misdemeanor – and, if he’s found guilty, faces a maximum penalty of a $3,000 fine and a year in jail.

Allen says he’s talking to his constituents.

“The commitment I made to getting a feel and trying to regain some confidence in the community is ongoing.”

He says he’ll decide whether to stay an MLA by the time the Alberta legislature sits on October 28th.
