CMHC: September housing starts up 286%

Fort McMurray saw a 286% hike in housing starts in September compared to last year.

The Canada Housing and Mortgage Corporation says the month saw 112 new houses compared to the 29 the year before.

Single units jumped 100% to 34 started and 78 multiple units were started which equals a 550% increase.

Compared to the same time last year, the region hiked new houses by 127% in the past 12 month to total 795 started houses.

The Ottawa-based federal agency says new projects in urban areas country-wide picked up by about 1% from August.
