UPDATE: Police confirm it was 2 Edmonton men killed in yesterday's 63 crash

UPDATE: 9:17am

Police confirm the two killed in the accident were Edmonton men.

RCMP continue to investigate the cause of the crash.

UPDATE 5:20am

63 has just reopened.

BACKGROUND

Highway 63 is still closed this morning after a head-on crash between two semis yesterday morning that killed the two drivers.

RCMP say the trucks hit each other just before 9, south of the 881 turnoff.

One of the trucks was carrying diesel and caught fire, but it’s since been extinguished.

There was nobody else in the trucks, but five other cars ended up hitting the ditch to avoid the crash.

Police say nobody in those cars were injured.

Lac La Biche and Fort McMurray RCMP say they expect what they call “regular travel” to resume later today.

They say the road was icy at the time of the crash but are still investigating.

Stay tuned for updates.
