MacDonald Island’s Shell Place is getting three new softball diamonds.

The Regional Recreation Corporation updated the community yesterday about the facility and says it’s worked with the city, the local Minor Baseball Association and the softball community.

It means one planned baseball diamond ill be re-positioned and in 2015, a total of four new softball diamonds, including one premier softball diamond, will open.

City Council approved capital funding for this back in Januray.

The update also included info on a city funded facility that will allow for reuse of water and energy saving opportunities at MacDonald Island.

The RRC is working to make the $127-million Shell Place a LEED Gold designation.

Another major partnership announcment regarding Shell Place and the Not-for-Profit Shared Space will be made Thursday.
