CMHC: February's housing starts fall 66% in Wood Buffalo

Housing starts picked up last month nationally and provincially,but not regionally.

The Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation says housing starts in Wood Buffalo went down 66% in February compared to a year ago.

It says there were 20 new housing projects last month, down fro 58 in February 2013.

Compared to last year there was a 64% drop in single-family homes, and a 67% drop in multiples.

So far this year, Wood Buffalo has built 111 houses, down from the 129 it had built the year before.

The only months last year that saw a decreased in Wood Buffalo were January and March.

Provincially, in February housing starts were up almost 7%, while nationally they were up 7.5%.
