RMWB lawyer looking for Tory nomination

A fresh face is all set to take a shot at federal politics in the upcoming election.

Municipal lawyer Arlan Delisle says he’s looking for the Conservative nomination.

“I started out my working career as an electrician in the oil and gas industry. I went from there and got involved in municipal government and eventually went to law school, and now I’m a practicing lawyer,” he adds, “I think that all of those experiences would serve me well representing the region.”

Former local MP Brian Jean resigned in January.

Delisle says he hopes to get the nomination to then take over Jean’s job.

He says Jean’s a tough act to follow.

“I want to thank Brian for his long service and his family’s involvement in the community and I recognize that there will be some big shoes to fill for sure.”

He says he’s putting himself out there to drum up some support.

“At this stage of the process, I want to have conversations with people who are interested in finding creative solutions to the issues that we face here,” he continues, “I need them to buy a membership in the Conservative party and vote when we know when the nomination day will be.”

Delisle was born in Leduc and raised in Edson, before coming to Fort McMurray with his wife and two kids in 2012.

A date has not yet been set for the by-election.
