Deputy Premier Hancock named as interim replacement for Redford

Alberta’s PC party has chosen Dave Hancock as interim leader and premier.

He’s the longest-serving minister in cabinet, and says he’ll draw on that experience.

“I intend to bring all of my talents to the table every day as I’ve done for 17 years in this business. I care very deeply about our province and our future. I think Albertans want to know that their government is in good hands, and that we will continue to do the work of government,” he said.

Hancock says his caucus is going to have to come together.

“None of us come to this job perfect. We’re part of a team, that team has to provide the full range of leadership to government and to the province. But our Premier has provided exceptional service,” he said.

Hancock, Redford’s last Deputy Premier, says his last conversation with her was positive.

“We had a personal conversation, she gave me some ideas and suggestions about things, but it was a bit of a transition conversation. And I thanked her, I thanked her for the work that she’s done on behalf of Albertans, and for the courage that she’s shown in doing that, the vision that she’s had for Albertans, the leadership she’s provided,” he said.
