Federal NDP candidate targeting cost of living in platform

Lori McDaniel says when it comes to Fort McMurray’s high cost of living, it’s something that needs to be addressed.

McDaniel, originally from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia is running as an N-D-P candidate in the by-election.

“There are lots of people just in this city alone that have stumbled here that are paying the price, the expensive price to live here for the hope of getting a decent job and a lot of people don’t have it,” she said.

She also says she thinks there’s more NDP support than people realize.

“The Liberals and the Conservatives have been the majority government/minority government for a long time, but most people if they got up voted I’m sure would as I am with the N-D-P platform,” she said.

McDaniel, who’s a health and safety rep for her local union, also operates heavy hauler equipment at Suncor.

She says in terms of the country’s natural resources, this area shouldn’t be relied on as heavily as it is.

“We have all kinds of natural resources that we should be able to reap the rewards of and businesses and manufacturing, you name it. There’s no reason why one place in this country should be sustaining the whole country,” she said.
