Suncor worker attacked, killed by black bear

A woman was killed just after 2:00 this afternoon when she was attacked by a black bear while working at Suncor.

Police confirm the worker died at the scene of the accident.

Along with EMS, RCMP and Fish & Wildlife workers responded to the scene, where they found and killed the bear.

“We are shocked by this very unusual incident and there are no words to express the tragedy of this situation. Our thoughts and prayers go out to family, friends and co-workers,” said Suncor executive vice president Mark Little in a statement.

“All of us need to focus on personal safety and I would urge everyone to be extremely vigilant in dealing with wildlife.”

Police say out of respect for the family, they won’t be identifying the victim.

Occupational Health and Safety says it’s launched an investigation into the accident.
