More than 300 charges laid during weekend blitz

The Integrated Traffic Unit says over 300 charges were laid over two days this past weekend.

On Friday and Saturday, ten officers took to the roads and setup five checkstops on Highway 63 as well as the city streets.

Six drivers were caught with a blood alcohol level between point-05 and point-08, which comes with an automatic 3-day license and vehicle suspension.

Five probationary drivers had alcohol or drugs in their system, and were suspended 30 days.

As well, four drivers have indefinite suspensions because of a blood alcohol level above point-08, and another three got 24 hour suspensions.

Four drug seizures were executed, and at least 15 vehicles ended up being impounded.

Police say the other major issue was speeding, and caught a driver going 168 in a 110 zone, 135 in a 70, and 101 in a 50 kilometre construction zone.

The driver caught going 51 over in the construction zone was also under the influence of alcohol.

The weekend blitz was a joint effort between ITU and Wood Buffalo RCMP.
