AER approves Northern Courier pipeline

Regulars are giving TransCanada the green light for a 90 kilometre pipeline.

“We are pleased that the Alberta Energy Regulator has approved Northern Courier, which will be a critical piece of infrastructure to support the long-term plans for growth and increased production from the Alberta oil sands,” said TransCanada President Russ Girling, in a news release.

The $800 million project will move bitumen and diluent products between the Fort Hills mine and Suncor’s East Tank Farm, which is north of Fort McMurray.

Officials hope to start construction in the third quarter of this year. They say it will be in service by 2017.
