RCMP report busy first week of August

The RCMP had a busy start to the month of August, laying 562 traffic charges during the first week.

A 30-year-old man was stopped downtown after nearly hitting a police car, where he was found to have been in the country illegally.

Upon his arrest, Canadian Border Services Agents began the process of getting him deported.

Other standout charges include:

– An 18-year-old from Olds, caught going 180 in a 110 km/h zone south of town.

– A 41-year-old from Spruce Grove was charged for speeding, and then for refusing to provide a breath sample, forcing police to suspend him and seize the vehicle.

-A 43-year-old McMurrayite charged with possession after being found with marijuana.

-A 44-year-old man from BC charged for going 140 while driving a semi and hauling an oversize load.

– A 32-year-old man from BC charged for driving 141 in a 70 km/h zone through town.

– A man stopped for speeding on 63 was found to be drinking from open alcohol in his vehicle, and blew twice the legal limit. He was charged with impaired operation.

– A driver was charged after being found with a suspended license. He was given a mandatory court sentence along with 30 day vehicle seizure.

– A 27-year-old woman from Chard was found driving 143 km/h south of town, and was impared by marijuana use. She was given a 24 hour suspension.
