Keystone XL climate impact is much higher than estimated: study

The Canadian government says a recent study is making false assumptions on the impact of the proposed Keystone XL pipeline.

Researchers from the Stockholm Environment Institute say that if TransCanada’s pipeline increases oil supply, the price could drop and the demand for oil might spike.

The study was published in the journal Nature Climate Change, and says the project’s climate impact could be up to four times higher than U.S. State Department estimates.

Industry officials say the relationship between pipelines and production isn’t that simple.
