Mercer survey says oilsands workers will get largest pay raise

If you’re on the payroll at an oilsands company, you’re expected to get the largest raises across Canada.

That’s according to a Mercer survey that says workers in the energy sector will get a 3.7 per cent salary increase in 2015. That’s off the heels of almost a 3.9 per cent raise this year. Across Canada, the average base salary increase will sit at three per cent next year.

Analysts say without the sector, the average nationwide increase falls one percentage point. They also say salary isn’t the only thing with value, and opportunities for advancement and good employer relations help attract and retain talent.

The survey says the weakest raises are in transportation, equipment, consumer goods and retail industries.
