Actor Leonardo DiCaprio learning about the oilsands in Fort McMurray

A regular on the red carpet has landed in Fort McMurray, for a first hand look at the oilsands.

An Edmonton Journal source says Leonardo DiCaprio will be in town for a few days, to learn about the impact of the industry for an upcoming environmental documentary.

He lent his voice to the recently released film Carbon. During his narration he calls it an ancient menace that unleashed global industrial power.

“Climate change is happening now, and is caused by human activity,” says DiCaprio in the film. “However, the fossil fuel industry continues to pull that carbon out of the ground. They drill, they extract, making trillions of dollars. They frack, they mine; earning astronomical profits. We need to keep this carbon in the ground.”

He joins Desmond Tutu, Neil Young and James Cameron on the list of notables who’ve visited the city recently.
