Public Interest Alberta says minimum wage increase isn’t enough

People getting minimum pay wage are getting a boost in their paycheques.

Alberta’s minimum wage increase went into effect yesterday. It increases from $9.95 to $10.20 an hour. The liquor server minimum wage increased to $9.20 per hours, to take into account that they typically earn tips.

Public Interest Alberta says the 25-cent boost works out to only $37 per month for someone working full-time hours. It notes that 77 per cent of all low-wage workers in Alberta are over the age of 20.
