Regulators call for more studies into Sandpiper pipeline

Minnesota regulators want an expanded study of possible routes for a 2.6 billion dollar pipeline.

A Star Tribune report says the Public Utilities Commission vote will likely delay Enbridge’s Sandpiper project.

The company wants to build a 610 mile pipeline through northern Minnesota to carry oil.

The commission called for a environmental impact study of six possible routes, because the current plans cross through rivers, lakes and wetlands.

Enbridge is hoping the project is approved by early next year, so it can finish it in 2016.
