The Keyano College Foundation hosted its annual Gala on Saturday night.

The night featured a performance from Corey Hart, and packed more than 1200 people into the Syncrude Sport and Wellness Centre.

Foundation Chair Paul Taylor says the money raised is spread across the board.

“The funds raised will go to support our students, programming, athletics, the theatre, and capital improvements,” he said.

“Collaboration is vital to Keyano’s ongoing efforts to ensure that Canada’s fastest growing region here in Wood Buffalo has sufficient and affordable access to post-secondary education.”

External Relations and Advancement VP Therese Greenwood says the Gala has come a long way from its humble beginnings.

“The Gala began back in 1981 as a small, intimate affair,” she said.

“And now it has grown into an amazing event where we celebrate our work with 1200 of our closest friends, while raising close to half a million dollars.”

She says they’re hoping to match the close to half a million dollars raised in 2013.

“Last year we made, I believe, 460-thousand dollars. And we’re on track for about that again; we sold out weeks ago,” she said.

“So we have every reason to believe we’re on target for the same thing this year.”

A final total for this year’s Gala has yet to be announced.
