Mitchell Mulhall a grade 12 student at Holy Trinity Catholic High School.

17-year old Fort McMurrayite Mitchell Mulhall is one of six Albertans who have been recognized for their community involvement with the 2014 Star of Alberta Award.

Mulhall is the first Fort McMurray resident to win the award since its inception 15 years ago. The Holy Trinity Catholic School student was nominated by Nathalie Reid a teacher at the school who acts as the Teacher Advisor for the Teens for Change (TFC) group of which Mulhall is the student leader.

The Stars of Alberta Volunteer award recognizes Albertans whose volunteer efforts have contributed to the well-being of their community and fellow community members. A total of six awards are handed out each year, two in each of the following categories, youth, adult, and senior and are presented annually.

“Mitchell has an incredible passion for making a difference in his local and global communities and has dedicated many hours to projects to both his school and community at large,” said program Co-Ordinator Alla Honcharuk.

The 17-year old is very active in the community, aside from leading TFC he also co-ordinates his schools annual participation in the soup kitchen, Christmas hamper delivery, and community clean-ups. Mulhall also went on a trip to Kenya with Free the Children.
