RMWB to begin residential snow plowing on Dec 17th

Residents of Fort McMurray will get some snow clearing relief as of December 17th, 2014.

With unseasonably warm weather in the forecast, the Public Works department will begin plowing residential roads.

“Normally residents will only see plows on major roads where on-street parking isn’t as much of an issue. Thanks to this mild weather we’ve got some leeway to try some new things,” said Director of Public Works Robert Kirby.

The RMWB will be placing message boards along with no parking signs 48 hours ahead of any planned snow removal operations in residential districts.

Residential plowing may be suspended should there be a heavy snow fall.

Mayor and Council will be voting on a new Snow and Ice Control policy on Tuesday, December 16th, 2014 when they also deliberate the 2015 Municipal operating budget.

Under the current policy, snow removal in residential areas occurs when the snow pack exceeds 10 centimetres.
