Budget and parking bans on council's agenda

Council members will meet this afternoon to finalize the 2015 budget.

The Capital Budget was passed last week and now the Operating Budget will be under the microscope. The proposed operating budget for 2015 is $785,905,100. More than $500 million of that total is for municipal operations, while $285,499,020 is proposed to get transferred for capital purposes.

Also on the agenda is a parking ban that would make room for snow plows to do their work. Administration recommends a one-day a week parking restriction on some urban roadways from 7 a.m.-5 p.m.

Council will also vote on an extension to the Lower Townsite Redevelopment Incentive Program. The Audit and Budget committee wants it extended for another two years. Council documents say the program’s success is evident with developments such as River Station and Waters’ Edge, Fatburger, Starbucks and Home Hardware.
