Hockey Alberta suspends Oil Barons Ayotte for one year

A Hockey Alberta decision will have Fort McMurray Oil Barons forward Danton Ayotte sitting on the sideline for a calendar year.

Ayotte drew a match penalty on an official during the first period of a 5-2 Oil Barons win over the Brooks Bandits on Dec. 6, 2014.

According to Hockey Alberta, Ayotte attempted  to intentionally strike, trip or body check an official.

Hockey Alberta process would have allowed for both Ayotte and the official with which the incident occurred to present their cases and bring forth any evidence before a decision was made on the length of suspension.

Oil Barons Head Coach Curtis Hunt released the following statement after the suspension was announced:

“Hockey Alberta has ruled on Danton Ayotte’s match penalty from December 6th in Brooks. Ayotte has been given a calendar year suspension. The club is considering all options on this ruling which may include an appeal. We have no other comment at this time.”

Ayotte had 10 points (4 goals, 6 assists) in 27 games along with 82 penalty minutes (including the 25 picked up on Dec. 6,2014).

The 19-year old, Wetaskiwin product had 26 points in his rookie season with the Oil Barons last year.
