RCMP seek public's help in sexual assault case

The Wood Buffalo RCMP is seeking the public’s assistance in a sexual assault case that took place on Aug. 23, 2014.

On Aug. 23, 2014 the Wood Buffalo RCMP received a complaint from a woman in her late 30’s who had been sexually assaulted by a man she met downtown.

“The initial meeting was at MacDonald Island park and therefore they became Facebook friends, and then after that they decided to meet again through Facebook at a downtown location, the victim didn’t state where that location was, it was believed to be in the area around 7-11 downtown,” said Wood Buffalo RCMP Media Relations Cst. Ashley Quallie.

Wood Buffalo RCMP say the woman was taken to a home in Abasand after the second encounter downtown, and held for a few hours while she was sexually assaulted.

“The home in which the assault took place is believed to be in Abasand. Whether that was the suspects home, a friends home, an acquaintance we are not at this time able to say,” said Cst. Quallie.

The victim was eventually able to leave the residence and attended the hospital where she was treated for minor injuries and released.

Police released the following description of the suspect:

– 40-year-old man;

– Aboriginal/Metis facial appearance;

– About 5’11, medium build, very built and in shape;

– Black hair and brown eyes;

– Slight French accent;

– May use the nickname “Dee” or “D”.
