Round dance honouring life of Amber Tuccaro

Fort Chipewyan community members will meet again to remember one of their own. The 2nd Annual Amber Tuccaro Memorial Round Dance will honour her life and memory.

She lived in Fort McMurray back in 2010 when she flew to Edmonton with a female friend and her 14-month old son. According to RCMP, she was last seen outside of Nisku on Aug. 19, 2010, getting into a vehicle with an unknown man. In 2012, her remains were found near Leduc by a group of horseback riders.

That year, investigators released an audio recording of a voice of a person of interest in the case. The conversation recorded on a cell phone featured the 20-year-old speaking to an unknown man the night she disappeared.

Mounties placed billboards near Leduc in 2013 that encouraged people to listen to the recording. In spring of last year, Tuccaro’s family filed an official complaint against Leduc RCMP. It said investigators downplayed her  disappearance and took her off the missing persons list after only a month.

The two-day event starts Jan.17 at 5 p.m. at Athabasca Delta School in Fort Chipewyan.
