Winter is cold, Oil Barons are not

While winter has clutched our country in its icy grip, the Fort McMurray Oil Barons are burning hot.

The MOB handled the Bonnyville Pontiacs with relative ease last night in a 5-1 victory at the Casman Centre.

Goaltender Zach Fortin picked up his 15th win of the season turning aside 43 of 44 shots he faced.

The Oil Barons top line of Adam Durkee (one goal, two assists), Trent Lofthouse (two goals, one assist), and the Captain Jetlan Houcher (one goal, three assists) were incredible picking up a combined ten points and scoring four of the MOB’s five goals on the night.

The Oil Barons jumped out to a 3-0 lead before the Pontiacs scored their lone goal of the game on the power play off the stick of Steenn Pasichnuck at the 8:13 mark.

Logan Franz added the Barons other goal, assisted by Luc Lalor and Mitch Vanderlaan.

With the win the MOB’s record improves to 24-14-4 for 52 points, just one back of Gord Thibodeau’s Lloydminster Bobcats for second in the North division.
