Mounties recruiting for Youth Community Challenge

Police wants people to sign up for the Youth Community Challenge. Wood Buffalo RCMP is looking for recruits ages 14 to 25-years-old. Const. Mylene Michon says it has four components:  community service, physical recreation, skill development and an adventurous journey.

“To have [youth] excited about something that’s very positive and exciting towards themselves, then maybe that will help them later in life and get them on the right path,” says Const. Michon.

Youth who sign up through the RCMP will get an assigned leader that follows up with them and guides them through the program. This is the first time it’s been offered through the Wood Buffalo RCMP detachment, and the Community Policing officers say it’s a perfect fit for their work.

“One of the reasons this is such a good program too is that we want to make us more approachable for kids if they need to talk to us about anything. That’s where we would benefit from it,” said Cpl. George Cameron.

Anyone who completes the program is given the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
