Former NHL'ers McLennan and Strudwick to come to Fort McMurray

Former NHL’ers Jamie McLennan and Jason Strudwick are coming to Fort McMurray to break down financial barriers to help local kids play hockey.

The two current NHL analysts will be at the Sawridge Inn & Conference Centre on Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2015 in the Timberline room as part of the ‘Every Kid Every Cpmmunity Speaker Series’.

The dinner is being held by the Fort McMurray Minor Hockey Association (FMMHA) in conjunction with the Hockey Alberta Foundation.

All proceeds from the event will go to FMMHA’s No Kids Left Behind Program and the Hockey Alberta Foundation’s Every Kid Every Community Program both aimed at increasing access and decreasing financial barriers to the game of hockey for kids.

“We are a thriving community in the North and we, as a recipient of revenue from the event, we were excited to get involved when presented with the idea from the Hockey Alberta Foundation,” said Fort McMurray Minor Hockey and Wood Buffalo Hockey Development President Travis Galenzoski. “This unique event will not only allow us the opportunity to host a couple of entertaining NHL celebrities in Fort McMurray, but will also serve to bring local hockey community partners together to support Wood Buffalo kids in need with an opportunity to play hockey.”

The event will take place from 4:30 p.m to 6:30 p.m.

Ticket prices include individual, table and sponsorship options.

Individual tickets are available for $80, tables of eight for $600 and sponsorships vary. Tables, Tickets as well as Sponsorships can all be purchased online here.

“One of our mandates as the Hockey Alberta Foundation is increasing access to the game of hockey which is why we created the Every Kid Every Community Program. In order to help others we have to rely on individual and corporate donations, both locally and provincially in order to ensure we can continue to support programs like the No Kid Left Behind,” said Executive Director of the Hockey Alberta Foundation, Scott Robinson. “We hope bringing our Every Kid Every Community Speaker Series event to Fort McMurray with Strudwick and McLennan will spread our message and awareness of the financial support we need.”

The Every Kid Every Community Program started in 2011, to date the impact of the program has included over $77,000 in grants awarded, in 24 different Alberta communities which included over 1400 kids.
