Chris Phillips becomes Senators leader in games played

Fort McMurrayite and Ottawa Senators defenseman Chris Phillips reached another career milestone last night.

Phillips surpassed his former teammate Daniel Alfredsson for the franchise record in games played with 1,179 in the Sens 2-1 loss to the Washington Capitals.

The former first overall pick began his NHL career with the Senators in 1997, after a run to the memorial cup final with the Kamloops Blazers the year previous.

He also spent two years with the Fort McMurray Oil Barons, picking up 70 points in 104 games played over the 1994 and 1995 seasons.

Phillips was named the AJHL’s most outstanding defenseman in 1995, his #6 has been retired by the Oil Barons.

At 36 years old, Phillips has scored 288 points 71 of which are goals over his NHL career.
