About 1,300 jobs reportedly cut from Husky Sunrise

One source says camp workers at Husky Sunrise woke up to a notice slipped under their doors, telling them they were out of a job. According to the source, who didn’t want to be named, they were contractors with Saipem.

“The guys, after they went to bed, security dropped letters off in their rooms. And when they woke of this morning they had to have their room packed up because they were going home,” he says.

“At about 5:30 [a.m.] there was probably about, at least 1,000 people lined up with their luggage and everything.”

Husky Energy achieved first steam at the SAGD site in December 2014. Last month, it reported a $603 million dollar loss in the fourth quarter and plans to cut $400 million from its 2015 capital plan, and up to $600 million in operating costs.

Husky Energy has yet to respond to requests for comment.
