Fort McMurray Oil Barons hockey is returning to its original home on CKYX.
ROCK 97.9 will broadcast all 60 regular season and all playoff games through the 2017-2018 season beginning with the upcoming Crescent Point Energy Western Canada Cup (WCC).
The first broadcast will be on Saturday, Apr. 25, 2015 at 7:15 p.m. as the Oil Barons will take on the champions of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL).
Seven WCC games will be broadcast on CKYX including all four of the MOB’s preliminary round games and the playoffs.
Director of Programming and Promotions, John Knox, announced the return of the Oil Barons on ROCK 97.9 live during the Chris Byrne Show on Monday, Mar. 16, 2015.
Each ROCK 97.9 broadcast will be fully featured, with pre-game and post-game shows featuring interviews and news, intermissions with out of town score updates and highlights, feature interviews, and high-quality, exciting play-by-play with live sound captured from ice level.
Rogers is pleased to announce Brad Karp as the play-by-play host for the all new Oil Barons’ broadcasts on ROCK 97.9.
Karp has previously been the voice of the the Nepean Raiders of the Central Canada Hockey League, the NorMan Northstars of the Manitoba Midget ‘AAA’ Hockey League, and most recently the OCN Blizzard of the MJHL.
